Ending Violence Against Women

Gender-based violence is a major issue facing Arab women in Israel, with rates of femicide rising year to year. Due to the critical nature of this issue, both local groups and the Jusur Forum have put this issue onto their local and national agendas. By working on the levels of awareness, advocacy, and education, Kayan, the Jusur Forum, and local groups are working with decision-makers, the civil society, and youth on making progressive changes towards women’s security in the Arab society in Israel. This work includes advocacy, awareness-raising, and ongoing lectures and workshops throughout the year.

16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence

Since 2015, Kayan has held an annual 16 days of activism against gender based violence campaign. The 16 days campaign is a coordinated global initiative, and spans from the November 25th International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ends on December 10th, Human Rights Day. Kayan’s campaign is coordinated by the Jusur Forum and local groups, and features intensive daily awareness-raising public activities in the villages in which Jusur is active, as well as media work, and intensive social media campaigning. Each year, thousands of women, youth, men, and political decision-makers attend our "16 days" events, in which they engage in open discussions and debates about violence against women in the Arab society, and learn key ways in which they can act as change makers in their daily lives and in their communities.
